I too enjoyed the quote you referenced about effort being the main priority. You were spot in saying effort can makeup for lack of ability and can push people to heights they may not have otherwise achieved. It would be interesting to see what mimicry of this ideal would look like in our modern school setting. If we were to turn the focus to effort and not ability, I'm curious what changes would have to be made? I think the benefits are there, but I am still debating the practicality of it all.
